Conde Nast Traveler: The 14 Best Things to Do in Charlotte
Unlike some Southern cities where lineage and tradition run deep, Charlotte is quite happy being the new kid on the block. The Queen City has seen a meteoric rise in the last decade, and you’re more likely to rub elbows with former New Yorkers or Californians than born-and-bred Charlotteans. While bigger cities were busy hogging the spotlight, Charlotte quietly upped the ante and has stepped out of the shadows. There’s so much to do and see—from havens for the arts like the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center and Levine Center for the Arts, to sports fan favorites like the Charlotte Motor Speedway and NASCAR Hall of Fame. The city’s temperate weather is a perfect for getting outdoors year-round, whether you’re hitting the trails of Little Sugar Creek Greenway, making waves on Lake Norman, or rafting them at the U.S. National Whitewater Center. There's also plenty of incredible food, and even more worth exploring beyond that: Here are the best things to do in Charlotte, N.C.
Charlotte's Camp North End is a 76-acre multi-use space with public art, food stalls, shops, offices and more in a former car factory and military depot. It's a big complex, but there's always somewhere to hang out for a bit (quite literally–you can stretch out in a hammock if that cafe table and chairs doesn't suit your needs). It's all about walking around, soaking up the cool, creative vibe—and eating.

A New Developer Takes the Wheel at 14th and Lavaca in Northwest Downtown

Farmers market extends stay at Camp North End
The North End Farmers Market is sticking around through the end of the year. Camp North End has reached an agreement with Farmers Market Management Services for that market to continue through Dec. 22; it was originally slated to conclude at the end of October.
The current lineup includes 15 anchor vendors and 21 rotating vendors, with local farmers, ranchers, food artisans and crafters represented. Additions for the holiday season include rotating options such as a petting zoo, chef demos and a jewelry-making class.
The extension was driven by demand from Camp North End’s tenants, visitors and neighbors, says Tommy Mann [bizjournals.com], development director for that sprawling, adaptive-reuse project.
“I think that says a lot about the need for fresh, local food in the North End,” Mann says. Our goal is to eventually be able to sustain a year-round farmers market.”
This was the first year for the market.

C5: Your ultimate guide to Camp North End, from food stalls to bookstores and art
Last year around this time, CharlotteFive published a guide to Camp North End. Despite a tumultuous 2020 amid COVID-19, Camp North End weathered the storm, growing its tenant list considerably. Now, visitors will find shops dedicated to charcuterie and plants; stalls serving Southern and Latin cuisine; and a place to cool down with an ice cream pop or craft cocktail.
Developed by ATCO Properties and Management, Camp North End blends Charlotte’s historic buildings with a bright future paved by local makers. And there’s more to come — Camp North End will eventually open the Keswick Platform, where seven pavilions will make space for more tenants. To continue to preserve the venue’s storied past, four Black architects will design the facades for four of these platforms, blending murals with carefully selected materials.
In addition to options to support small businesses through shopping and dining, Camp North End also offers socially distant options to engage with the space through its Skyline Drive-In. Whether you’re craving takeout from your favorite local maker or want to catch a movie, there’s always something to see at Camp North End. Here’s a list of what’s open — and what’s to come:
